The Australian Museum of Clothing and Textiles

The Australian Museum of Cloting and Textiles is a museum dedicated to the collecting, documenting, researching and displaying clothing, textiles and their related materials, both domestic and commercial, from Australia's earliest times to the prsent day. We feature three different exhibitions a year. The muesum is a registered charity and is run by volunteers.

The museum is located 5 minutes walk from East Maitland Railway station,and is 5 minutes off the New England Hwy. Easy access for buses, carpark and lots of street parking. The mueum is situated in the front of historic Maitland Gaol. Cafe next door. Toilets. The museum can provide a guide for large groups and for an extra charge of $2 a tickets, a behind the scenes tour can be provided.

Our collection features;

* Clothing -both Australian and International clothing owned and worn by Australians from all walks of life. Men's, women's and children's wear, everyday and special occasion, hats, shoes, gloves, handbags and jewellery.

* Textiles- Domestic linens and textiles, arts and cradts, fabrics and sewing and craft notions. W also have a growing reference library of related materials.
