The Museum contains may culinary domestic items as well as some antique machinery and office equipment. Narryna is a beautiful Georgian sandstone and brick house with a walled and flagstoned courtyard and a coach-house. It is set in a lovely old world garden shaded by huge elm trees. The museum is a cluster of seven buildings which are themselves exhibits e.g.. One is 'Dryazell' (on its original site), one time private school and residence of first government subsidised teacher on Flinders Island. Another building is the replica of a Muttonbird processing shed as used 1920-1948. This shed contains original artefacts donated by Frank and Heather Willis whose family have been Muttonbirding for well over 100 years. The museum is presently housed in the attic rooms of AMA House, a Georgian building erected in early 1850s. The collection reflects medical practice in Tasmanian from the late 1800s to the present, and complements other medical collections in Tasmania. Como is one of a few surviving large suburban estates, dating from 1847, just over 10 years after European settlement of the Port Phillip district. For 95 years it was owned by the Armytage family, prominent graziers and well known members of Melbourne Society. Much of their original furniture is in the house today. The house is surrounded by 6.5 acres of beautiful gardens.Approx. 1500 pieces of furniture and decorative art objects, mostly original to the Armytage family's period of ownership (1864-1959).
