Our museums goal is to tell the story of ordinary Australian motoring. We are a social history museum with a dynamic exhibition and events program. A scenic drive through the Adelaide hills leads to the small town of Birdwood. Our 3,500 sq metres of pavilions display a collection and interpretation that appeals to the general public as well as enthusiasts.

The complex is comprised of a stone courthouse, police station, police horse stables and original lock-up. Established in 1848, it played an important role in the development of the district. Exhibitions are also displayed in two modern buildings on site.The early police and judiciary are the main themes of our museum exhibition, supported by displays dealing with early settlement in the area. We also have extensive historic photographic and paper (documents etc) collections.

This collection is currently being developed by a committee of volunteers who have been collecting any items related to the operations of the fire service and fire protection both of an historical and modern nature. Currently the museum is a collection only. Its aim is to preserve fire service equipment and memorabilia. Negotiations with the parent body (Tasmanian Fire Services) for public displays facilities are on going.Approximately 1500 items including 10 fire service vehicles
The Archives Office of Tasmania, established through the provisions of the Archives Act 1983 (and previous archival legislation) is the repository for all Tasmanian government records which are no longer of immediate administrative use but which are considered worthy of permanent or long-term preservation. It is currently administratively linked to the Department of Education.The Archives Office holds many thousands of linear metres of records, the vast majority of which are those of State and local government agencies.

The Emerald Museum is a local history museum and archives which houses and selectively displays approximately 1600 photographs, 600 memorabilia, documentary records (including contemporary records) and family histories relevant to the economic, social and environmental history of Emerald and district (within postcode 3782). A collection of original ledgers, stock books and catalogues of the renowned Nobelius Nursery provides a link with the heritage park in which the museum is situated. Newspapers, files on local organisations (eg churches, schools), photographs, local cemetery records, obituaries and some local family histories are included in this collection. The Society organises displays for special organisations and its local history artefacts are a useful resource for school groups.
The Museum is the restored original Police Station. It is gradually being developed and at present includes the original portable cell, stables and a kitchen. An original shepherd's hut has been re-erected on this site along with an original camp oven.Approximately 100 items
The Clunes Museum is an historic building (1860) in the main street of Clunes which houses a collection of memorabilia from Victoria's first gold town. Displays include agricultural, gold, coins and cultural themes. Reception has a shop where local crafts, souvenirs and local history books are on sale. The Museum is dedicated to conserving and displaying items relating to the local history of the Borough of Queenscliffe since 1838. The diverse collection reflects the many aspects of the development of Queenscliffe; sea pilot station, fishing village, military guardian of Port Phillip Bay and fashionable sea-side resort. Still operating today as part of the Mt Alexander Hospital, this Gothic-style brick building has featured prominently in Castlemaine's history since the gold rush and was formerly used as the Castlemaine Benevolent Asylum. This former Courthouse built in 1914 holds a collection of small domestic and agricultural artefacts on display and features a War Memorial Room. Documents include family, school, church, district, shire, sports and railway histories as well as ndividual files. Family research for inquiries is undertaken, using local resources and index of papers. Minute books of local organisations are stored safely. Original buildings (lifeboat house 1862 and rocket house 1886), house an exceptional collection of maritime rescue equipment from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The collection includes a restored sea-going lifeboat, which was built at the Williamstown marine yard in 1857.Approximately 150 items and 30 photographs. Collection relates to Port Fairy (Belfast) Lifeboat Station - a fine collection of 19th Century and early 20th Century maritime rescue equipment, including a restored and seaworthy 1857 lifeboat.
Housed in the old woodend Court House, the Resource Centre caters for local and family history inquiries. The collection is accessed by computers and a master file by over 100,000 cards. Built in 1858 of local honey coloured granite, the Beechworth Courthouse was converted to a museum in 1991. The original furniture and fittings are complemented by information on the history of the courthouse and displays on the police, judiciary and bushrangers.Approximately 200 items
Water Tower Museum is housed in an old four-storey, thirteen-metre water storage tower built in 1886 by the railways for the supply of steam engines. This Museum is housed in Echuca's former Police Station and its cells. It specialises in the history of Echuca, its place in the river trade and its past citizens through its collection of documents, river charts, photographs and artefacts. Genealogical data is on microfiche and copies of local newspapers. Echuca Borough Council Rate and Valuation books and church records are on microfilm.3500 items
