Mangowine Homestead

Mangowine Homestead

This pioneer homestead (c.1876) set in the rich eastern wheatlands, was built for Charles and Jane Adams. The property consists of the first homestead constructed of stone and mud brick, a wayside inn, cellar, wells and a family store. When gold was discovered at nearby Yilgarn in the 1880s, Mangowine experienced a new lease of life. Charles Adams was granted a licence to operate a wayside inn, and it was at this time that a second building was erected to provide catering and lodging premises for the diggers. Mangowine has been furnished in a manner that recreates the original atmosphere. A muniments room contains interesting items of memorabilia relating to the Adams family
