Mental Health Museum of W.A.

The Mental Health Museum of W.A. is dedicated to revealing some of the history of of Mental Health Services in W.A.

It is open to the general public by appointment which can be made by phoning (08) 9347 6600.

An active committee of former Mental Health Services employees and other interested parties meet regularly to manage the displays and process the historical artifacts that have been acquired.

At present the Museum opens every third Wednesday of the month between 10am and 3pm when the committee is onsite.

The Museum is housed in one of the older buildings of a working hospital. There is wheel chair access to Shaw House. Parking is close by.

An appointment must be made to view the collection and one of the committee will escort visitors and explain the exhibits.

There is a train stop 15 minutes walk away and a bus stop 100m across from the building.
Collection: 

The collection covers artifacts, documents, regalia and displays covering the history of mental health services in W.A. offered by the Claremont, Swanbourne and Graylands Hospitals.

Both Claremont and Swanbourne Hospitals have be de-commissioned.

The collection is still growing as items and documents are sourced and archived.
