Why are ACT Fire Brigade Trucks Yellow?

Of all the questions out there this is the one that pops up the most.

It all comes down to safety, not just for the fire crews but the public as well. Think about a fire truck, that weighs between 11 and 30 tonnes, as it travelling along Canberras roads with its lights and sirens going. Most people think that is enough, but it isn't. The flashing lights, the blaring siren, the sheer size of the trucks, sometimes it isn't enough.

So the ACT Fire Brigade did some research and came up with the colour "ACT Fire Brigade yellow". A bright yellow/green colour that is highly visible and generally not the colour of other vehicles. And yes it is copyrighted.

So why yellow? Your eyes cannot see red at night. And the darker it gets the harder red is to see.
