Mater Archives and Heritage Centre

Mater Archives and Heritage Centre collects material which records the history of the Sisters of Mercy, the foundation and development of Mater Hospitals in Brisbane and the working life of their medical, nursing and other staff. The Centre provides access to its resources through tours, displays and other promotional activities.

The Mater Archives and Heritage Centre is located on the 3rd floor of Aubigny Place - the original Mater Private Hospital, a heritage listed building, designed by Robin Dods and built in 1910.
Mater Hospital is adjacent to the Mater Bus Station. Parking is available in multistorey carparks but not in Hospital grounds. Wheelchair access is available via the rear of the building.

The Mater Archives and Heritage Centre holds records and artefacts that reflect the historical development of the seven hospitals comprising Mater Health Services and the work of the Mater Sisters of Mercy.

Records include photographs, architectural plans, medical and surgical instruments, uniforms, newspaper clippings and personal papers, memoirs, diaries, speeches, scrapbooks of Mater staff and Sisters of Mercy.
