Patchwork Quilts

Quilt entirely made of hexagons joined to make 'flowers', 6 hexagons form the petals and one in the centre. The quilt is all cotton in a wide variety of colours in plains, checks and florals. The hexagons are all hand stitched using stranded cotton. There is a plain blue border of headcloth machined around the edge to the backing material. It is not quilted The materials were almost all from the scrap bag. Brown paper templates were used. This arrangement of hexagons is one variation of a pattern commonly called 'Grandmother's Flower Garden'.

Utility quilt, machine pieced from mainly squares of dress materials in many different patterns. The backing is a wholecloth paisley print. The padding is pieced used clothing and materials including chenille and plush.

Doll's quilt of crazy patchwork of cotton fabrics including handkerchiefs, mainly in checks and stripes, in pinks, yellow, blues and black, stitched to a cotton backing with herringbone stitch in embroidery thread in brown, light brown, and white..

Log cabin quilt with 90mm squares in cotton materials, white (or cream), faded blacks, dark blues, reds and browns. All the strips are very narrow. No actual padding as such but the quilt is fairly thick because with such narrow strips, there is so much seam allownace. The backing is a light calico.

"This unusual quilt is comprised of bands of horticultural show ribbons machined onto a blue lining. The ribbons are royal blue in colour and printed in gold/bronze with two inscriptions.

The quilt has been formed so the two inscriptions alternate down the face of the quilt. The ribbons appear to be of rayon. White cotton machine thread was used in the construction. Cotton quilt in a design called 'Crossed Canoes'. Yellow background with various coloured cotton prints. Machine pieced and hand quilted in a diamond pattern. There is a thin padding and the backing is the same yellow cotton as on the top.

A cradle quilt. All cotton. In the tradition of the previous quilts made by Eva Leota Towe. Never used.

Handsewn quilt of octagon shaped printed patches. Stitching is in red and white cotton. The backing is heavy cream calico. It is closely quilted in bands of floral and wave patterns.

Quilt top is of squares, approximately 180mm, made from a variety of fabrics including fine corduroy. It is hand pieced, and hand embroidered around each square with feather stitch, using blue embroidery cotton. 2380 x 2000 mm. 2380 x 2000 mm.
