The Central Highlands Regional Library Corporation is a public library of twelve branches and a mobile library, providing service to the people of the City of Ballarat, Shire of Hepburn, Shire of Moorabool, Shire of Pyrenees, Ararat Rural City Council, Central Goldfields Shire & Southern Grampians Shire. The Australiana Research Room is part of the Ballarat Library . The Library is located near the CBD area of Ballarat. Shops, cafes etc are 5 minute walk away.

Collection: 

The collections in the Australiana room comprise

*a large local history collection of books, maps, street directories, photographs, ephemera, and local newspapers on microfilm

*birth death and marriage records available on CD, and

*access to Ancestry Library Edition.

For family history buffs, the Ballarat Genealogical Society also house their collection here, so there are many, many local records available for research.

The collection was founded on a strong Australiana special collection from the original Ballarat Public Library, which in goldrush times was noted to have the best collection outside the Melbourne Public Library. The collection now includes special collections on Art History, and Military, and several large collections of photographs relevant to Ballarat.
