Echuca Historical Society Inc
The Echuca Historical Society has been in operation since 1960, and was originally formed to save Echuca wharf from demolition and thereafter to bring several riverboats back to Echuca for restoration. It is now a local history museum, with a strong focus on recording the early settlement along the Murray River, with the collection and conservation of historical items, and the furthering of the knowledge of our history and heritage within the community

The historical collection is housed in theNational Trust listed former Police Station & Cell complex Circa 1867>1969 and comprises an extensive quantity of textiles, photography and documents, family & trades objects and riverboat & transport memorabilia, portraying much of the lifestyle of our early residents.
We believe much of it is unique to the district and to the era 1850 – 1960, it is extensive, with collections from many of the prominent local families of the era.
The collection records the early settlement life along the Murray River and which is integral to understanding the significant place the people/town/district had in the opening up of the grazing and commerce along the river.
