Schwerkolt Cottage, the Museum and the Society's Local History Room are located in Deep Creek Road, Mitcham, (Melway Ref 49 D7) on 5 I/2 acres The Whitehorse Historical Society Inc. maintains the three room historical Schwerkolt Cottage built in the German style in 1885 from local stone, plus a barn, wine cellar, blacksmith's shed, smokehouse and a museum, together with a remnant orchard and associated orchard/agricultural machinery area. Museum covers the activities of early residents generally up until the 1950/60. Also included is an Implement Shed which houses the farming, orcharding and agricultural; activities of the district.

Collection: 

Nearly 4,000 artefacts including costumes, lace, handcrafts, tile and clay products, orchard farming equipment and wagons, toys, blacksmith's forge and tools, antique furniture and furnishing and domestic equipment. There are 3,500 photographs and more than 5,000 documents, books and maps
