There is a long history of arts activity in Toowoomba. The Gallery was founded in 1938 and the Art Society founded in 1925. There are about twenty secondary state and private schools, and the University offers Masters and Degree courses in Visual Arts - drawing, ceramics, painting, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, art history. TAFE offers Certificate Visual Arts Courses in painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and printmaking. Arts groups include: Decorative Arts Society; Gallery Society; Art Society; Community Arts; and Toowoomba Quilters. There are a large number of commercial galleries, antique shops, pottery and craft shops.
