The museum is situated in a 130 year old building set among others of the same era which formed part of a former gas works. In the museum is a collection of vintage gas appliances, gas making plant and records. The display of items depicts the history of the gas industry in Australia in general and the South Australian Gas Company in particular.

The Gumeracha and District History Centre is situated in the Library Complex, Albert Street Gumeracha. Comprising of the whole of the Torrens Valley Ward of the Adelaide Hills Council (formerly Gumeracha Council). The Stonnington Local History Collection is a collection of archival material held at two separate locations, Malvern and Prahran. Each archive houses historical photographs, plans, correspondence and ephemera. The collection also includes historical civic items held at the Prahran Town Hall and Malvern Town Hall. This pre-fabricated timber mansion was imported from Germany and erected in 1855 for Charles Ibbotson, a partner of Frederick Dalgety. While the interior of the house was re-furbished by its owners in the 1930s, the grounds and gardens remain much as they were in the nineteenth century, complete with stone water tower, stables and dovecote. A decorative arts collection is displayed within the mansion. A small collection of fine Georgian furniture is also on display, collected by the last owners, Marnie and Louis Whyte - Charles Ibbotson's grandson.2000 objects

The museum is housed in an original 1947 Nissan Building which has been given to the town of Camperdown to be managed by the local service clubs. Guided tours of the restored carriages and buggies recall the bygone era of horse-drawn transport.16 carriages in the Ower St building and 6 in the Old Four Mill, all date from before the turn of the 19th century.
Displays include period settings, repair workshops, posters and other memorabilia with over 120 painstakingly restored cars, bikes, unusual and performance vehicles.
