The net basket is made from bark fibre from the Beach Hibiscus (Kwambran) and Sandpaper Fig (Aloonga)
The net basket is made from bark fibre from the Beach Hibiscus (Kwambran) and Sandpaper Fig (Aloonga)

It is wound together tightly to make twine and then woven into a basket.  The different colours in the weave are produced by using different coloured fibre, rather than by dyeing. 

The basket is made by women and used for straining vegetables such as arrowroot, pila and burnie bean.  It is also used for carrying tools, food and clothes.
