Description: 
Quilt of 2025 hexagons stitched together to form diamond patterns. Hand sewn using paper templates. Materials are cottons and plains typical of the thirties period. The backing is blue cotton and the quilt is bound with many rows of coloured bias binding through which is treaded window cord. There is no padding. The quilt is called 'Grandmothers' Flower Garden quilt'.

History: 

The quilt was made in the 1930s by the President and members of the Mildura C.W.A. In the 1970s it was donated to the Mildura and District Historical Society. It is now on permanent display at Langtree Hall, a folk museum of local history that is behind the Cottage in Walnut Avenue Mildura.

Story: 

This quilt was commenced in the 1930s by the members of the newly formed Mildura branch of the Country Women's Association. Mrs. Edie Lawn was the president. She did most of the assembling and was also a memebr of Mildura Branch of the Embroiderers' Guild. The quilt was completed in 1938 after which it was displayed on special occasions and was always used as a cover on the President's table at the monthly meetings.
Forty years later Alice Farmer, Secretary of the Mildura and District Historical Society, accepted the quilt on behalf of the Society. It was originally in the Historical Society's rooms in the old power house. It is now on permanent loan to Langtree Hall where it is displayed.

The beige squares have a cornucopia design embroidered in dark brown stem stitch. There is a wide border front and back of beige linen. The backing is brown and white check cotton. There is no padding.

Patchwork quilt made from squares and rectangles of pink, blue and white fabric set with a frame of pink and white print around a centre rectangle made of 4 pink triangles. Four corner squares of blue and white stripes, Many squares are pieced from smaller scraps. The Material is a crepe type, possibly used for underwear. Handsewn and machined. Backing is made from cotton scraps, possibly lawn or similar. Padding is flanellete or similar. Edges are bound in a striped material. Quilt shows signs of wear.

The light green squares are hand embroidered with Australian native birds, the medium green squares are decorated with pulled thread designs. No padding. The quilt consists of a central field within a main field within a narrow border a main border and then an outer border. The centre field consists of embroidered Prince of Wales feathers with 4 embroidered motifs, parrot, duck, open fan and 4 playing cards within an appliqued sunburst border. The quilt has many embroidered and appliqued motifs, some just abstract shapes, many with a Chinese Japanese theme. It is quilted and padded but the type of padding is unknown. The backing is red cotton sateen.

This double sided quilt has a centre frame with an appliqued circle feather stitched on. This is surrounded by blocks and strips of mainly rectangles. It is hand pieced. The other side is very broad strips of rectangles mainly in florals some the same as other florals in quilts in the collection. The padding is a cotton blanket and some pieced shapes
The circle motif is common to other quilts in the 'Craigmoor' collection.
