Artefacts from various early cultures in the Mediterranean region - particularly Cyprus, Egypt, Greece and Italy. Material from the Americas, South East Asia and Oceania and a large collection of Aboriginal material. The displays include pottery, glassware, bronze & wooden weapons, stone tools, paintings and coins.

There is a display of the Hobbit made by the museum on show in the Dixson Library not far from the museum, along with other material on display in the museum. The Cypriot displays are a major feature and although not the largest in Australia are the most diverse with a range of 6,000 years from the Neolithic I to the Byzantine Period A.D. 1300.
