The City of Port Phillip aims to build on its heritage as a place where arts and cultural activities are explored, promoted, valued and respected; it supports the Curatorial Services team and the Port Phillip City Collection (PPCC) to realise these aspirations.

The Port Phillip City Collection is also accessible through exhibitions, the CoPP website and Curatorial services. Curated exhibitions based on the Collection are shown periodically at the St Kilda, Port Melbourne and South Melbourne Town Halls. Related information and images can be found on the CoPP website. Staff assist with public research enquiries and provide a photographic reproduction service.
Collection: 

The Port Phillip City Collection comprises artworks and heritage items which illustrate and celebrate the City’s social, political, cultural and artistic development. It reflects the history of the City which is founded on the amalgamation, in1994, of three of Melbourne’s earliest urban municipalities - the Cities of South Melbourne (est.1855), St Kilda (est.1857) and Port Melbourne (est.1860). Collection items are of local, state and national significance and date from the 1860s. The Collection numbers over 10,000 items and includes 4,000 photographs, 600 plans and maps, many ephemera and civic items and over 500 contemporary artworks.

The City of Port Phillip encourages and supports local artists through the development of the Contemporary Visual Arts Collection. This collection represents nationally recognised artists who have had a strong association with the City or whose work depicts social, cultural or geographical aspects of the Port Phillip area. Items from this collection are displayed on rotation throughout the St Kilda Town Hall.
