Housed in a restored waterfront shed, the Maritime Centre in the heart of Newcastle is an engaging, visitor focused tribute to the central role of the port, shipping and coals in the development of Newcastle and the Hunter Region, showing the importance of the maritime industries and the sea in the character and lives of our people.

Facilities: 
Parking is street and a 2 minute walk carpark. There is disabled access, but no designated parking. However street parking is suitable and free for 4 hrs for ticketed disabled parking. As it is in the centre of the new tourist area, there are many restaurants, cafes etc directly across the path. There are parks all along the foreshore for family picnics. Shops are just beginning to open in the area, but there is a market held opposite every Sunday. Public transport - train to Civic station is 1 minute walk. Bus transport - to Civic with a 5 minute walk

Many boats, pieces of wrecks, large collection of maritime memorabilia, including many written logs and stories from seaman over many years, many builders and model-makers models, uniforms and a large collection of maritime books and photographs
