Western Plains Zoo
Western Plains Zoo is Australia's premier open range zoo and home to more than 1100 animals from around the world, many of them endangered species. Situated at Dubbo in central western New South Wales, Western Plains Zoo is approximately 400 km from Sydney and almost midway between Melbourne and Brisbane on the Newell Highway. The 788 hectare open range Zoo is divided into five geographical areas - Africa, Eurasia, North America, South America and Australia. The animals live in large open displays which reflect their natural habitat. Get as close as you can to the animals by taking advantage of our keeper presentations and activity feeds, or spend the night in the heart of the Zoo in Zoofari Lodge.
