Description:
Dresden plate quilt with pointed pieces set around a white centre. Fabrics are checks, floral patterns and plains of the 1930s. The twenty blocks are sashed with plain mauve fabric which does not meet evenly in some places. The padding is two layers of cotton bedspreads. The backing is open weave rough quality cotton.

History:
The history is unknown except that it was bought at a garage sale in the Castro Valley of the San Francisco area of California, USA in approximately 1992 by the present owner. It is not used now.
Story:
"The way in which the present owner acquired the quilt is quite interesting. She went to a garage sale in the Castro Valley near San Francisco, California USA, and the quilt was being used to block up a broken window in the garage. So she was able to exchange an old acrylic blanket which she happened to have in the car for the very well worn quilt. As the acrylic blanket would not hold water the vendor thought that he was getting the best of the bargain." [Joy Hill Quilt Historian WAQA]

The centre frame consists of a blue rosette of hexagons surrounded by six rosettes or flowers all with black centres. Hand pieced patchwork quilt with blue and black checkerboard central frame surrounded by 4 borders of irregular sized rectangles. Mainly dress materials with possibly some furnishing material. It is not quilted or tied. The backing is a large rectangular red check table cloth with 3 borders of irregular shaped pieces down 2 sides and 1 border down 2 sides. There is no padding.

Cotton quilt , octagons of printed floral joined with squares of printed and plain. Yellow floral border. Cotton backing with very intrictae pattern in machine stitching.

Double bed patchwork coverlet of pieced blocks in a pinwheel or dresden plate pattern of prints on a cream ground, each block with a 1 3/4" border or sash. Each pinwheel has 10 pieces, and the quilt is constructed 8 blocks by 6. Cotton fabrics are in florals, checks and stripes, in blues, greens browns, pinks, purple. The quilt was in poor repair and has been reduced in size. Conservation work has been done by the State Conservation Centre.

This domestic Wagga is two layers of woollen army blankets with the top layer in rectangles joined in rows. The backing is hessian bags that originally contained meat meal.
