Description:
Repeat block in churn dash pattern. Machine stitched with design in a variety of patterned fabrics against a white background. 2 shades of mauve stripping separate the blocks. The quilt is very damaged and faded. The padding is cotton and the backing white cotton. It is hand quilted in 1/4 circles. 2000 x 1720mm
History:
The maker is unknown. It is believed the quilt is American. It was to have been thrown away but the sister-in-law of the present owner, who lived in Reading UK, rescued it. It is not used now.

The light green squares are hand embroidered with Australian native birds, the medium green squares are decorated with pulled thread designs. No padding. Machine constructed log cabin quilt using a wide variety of strips of used clothing including cottons, men's suitings and wools. Each square is about 250mm and arranged in the 'light and dark of the fire' variation of log cabin. There is no padding. The backing is brown twill with an orange pattern and is probably a replacement backing.

Pieces of heavy woollen material have been strip pieced and then joined. The joined pieces have then been folded over and restitched along the sides to make a double sided quilt. It is very heavy.

Patchwork quilt made of approx. 730 Suffolk Puffs, using mainly cotton materials in florals and plains. Each puff is 45mm diameter. The quilt centre has a square of 16 pink puffs outlined with a single row of blue puffs. Each corner of the quilt has a square of 9 puffs in a single colour. No padding. Quilt is edged and backed with a red and white tartan cotton.
Quilt of scrap hexagons. Hand pieced over papers with some papers still in place. Materials used include seersucker, plisse, chambray and various other textured cottons used in dressmaking. The owner has restored the quilt. The backing is a soft cotton in indigo blue and the padding is flannelettte. "I machine tied the quilt in its restoration using cream cotton at the intersections so that it doesn't impinge on the interesting fabrics and the overall scrap effects." [Marie Pye]
