The Museum collection is housed in the old Esperance Railway Station building. It was officially opened in October 1976 and is staffed entirely by volunteers. Items from the wreckage of Skylab which crashed to earth near Esperance in 1979, a WAGR steam locomotive, exhibits from Sir Douglas Mawson's Antarctic expedition, a large agricultural machinery display, items from shipwrecks and items from early settlements make up a fascinating collection of exhibits. Whiteman Park is a large conservation and leisure reserve that also provides a home and operating contect for 5 independent community museum organisations: Motor Museum of WA; Tractor Museum of WA; Bus Preservation Society of WA; Perth Electric Tramway Society; and the WA Light Railway Preservation Association. Whiteman Park's own display includes horsedrawn wagons and equipment, a mining headframe and steam shovel, printing equipment and traditional railway buildings.

The emphasis is agricultural and social and includes the four other small towns that existed in the area. Chiverton House is a community museum; its collection reflects changing lifestyles influenced by mining (1848-1950). The building, histories and collections relating to Capt Samuel Mitchell and his family provide a link to the convicts and Lynton Hiring Station (1853-56), the railway (1879-1957), pastoral and farming development (1850 onwards) and the local effects of events such as depressions and wars.4,000 objects include house (as operating home) objects, farm machinery (some restored) 1,000 photos include local families, identities, property homes and events.
Situated in the main street of Wyalkatchem, the main museum building is a 1936 Wheat Bin. Bulk handling of wheat originated in the Shire of Wyalkatchem and the wheat bin is the oldest in preservation and is a museum piece on its own. Most items have been restored and are still operational. Some interesting "as is" items are also on display. The Museum is a branch of the Western Australian Museum. It is housed in a modern building dominated by a massive mining headframe attached to an old hotel - all within botanical gardens - containing genuine and replica buildings showing aspects of goldfields life. Displays include period settings, repair workshops, posters and other memorabilia with over 120 painstakingly restored cars, bikes, unusual and performance vehicles. Located at the heart of picturesque Whiteman Park, the museum has ample parking delightful lakeside picnic and BBQ facilities and only 18 minutes from Perth.Collection includes possibly the oldest car in western Australia, 1898 Benz and many special display of early motoring in Western Australia.
