Quilt consisting of log cabin blocks with a centre piece, 520 x 460mm, of crazy patchwork. Each log cabin block is individually done and each 'log' is stuffed with a mixture of fur (angora?) and wool. The crazy patchwork centre is heavily embroidered and embellished with shells, beads and sequins. 'Devonport' and '1895' are embroidered on separate patches. There is no backing.

Pieced and appliqued quilt of pink, blue and brown wool. Centre motif is an applique whirligig or flower in pink and blue on tan, with two pink side borders topped by smaller appliqued whirligigs or flowers in the same colours. The outer frame is made of strips of pink, blue,and brown, with a border of brown. Some silk embroidery on the applique edges. No padding. Backing is of cretonne.

One patch scrap quilt in a wide variety of cottons, patterned and plain. It is hand quilted. There is a muslin interlining and the backing is cotton. 2000 x 1750mm.
Quilt constructed of blocks of hexagons with 72 'flower' rosettes made from plain and printed cotton scraps. The centre of each rosette has the name of one of the Girl Guides embroidered on it. The one in the centre of the quilt has the Trefoil insignia outlined in satin stitch. The background is white hexagons. There is no padding and it is backed with white cotton. 1880 x 960mm
"The quilt is made from three panels of white cotton fabric, each about 800 mm wide and machine-stitched together. The quilting pattern consists of an all-over diamond ground with a central medallion of flowers and leaves and a border of scrolling feathers and flowers. The quilt is finished with a single row of machine stitching round the edge and marked 'T W Ritson' in ink on the underside of one corner and 'T W R' under another. The blue pattern markings are still evident on the surface of the quilt." [PHM] It is padded and backed with cotton.

" A small rectangular quilt made from 54 embroidered badges for school blazers. Most are from NSW schools and some of these are repeated; one is for a school in Suva, Fiji. The ground fabric of the badges is wool, in shades of dark blue, light blue, black and grey. The monograms are machine and hand embroidered with school crests and mottos in Latin and English; as the embroidery is not of a finished quality, it may be that the badges were either store samples or trial pieces. The quilt is machine pieced and is backed with dark cherry red wool that turns over to the right side to form a narrow border binding." [PHM] It is not padded.

Quilt of cotton and linen fabrics has pots of flowers appliqued on to a cream background with hexagonal 'paths' of a striped fabric in between. The appliqued flowers are in broderie perse - flowers cut from floral patterned fabric. The diamond shapes in between the hexagons have single flowers in broderie perse. "A wholecloth hand quilted Northumberland quilt made from fine white cotton. The design features a large centre medallion of flowers, shells and leaves with more foliate designs in the corners and edges; the remaining area is quilted in a diamond pattern. The blue lines of the quilting pattern are still visible on the surface. The quilt has been machine finished with cotton wadding and a cotton backing. A label with the words 'Mrs L McFadyen/Inverell' is sewn to the edge." [PHM]

All cotton quilt of machine pieced repeat blocks with groups of hand appliqued tulips and green leaves that have faded to ecru. The blocks are sewn together in rows in a floating pattern. It is padded and quilted and there is a cotton backing.

Quilt with white background and blocks in blue and green. 'Robbing Peter to Pay Paul' pattern. Plain blue border. Hand pieced and quilted. Quilt was cut down, worn center piece discarded then quilt pieces rejoined. A cover for the pillow was made from scraps when quilt was cut down.

Quilt of 70mm hexagons forming rosettes. Satin material in plain colours. Background is several shades of grey. There is a 135mm silver grey border that is mitred and returns to the back. There is no padding. The backing is a darker grey. The quilt is signed by the maker and dated.

"Quilt made up of 66 embroidered squares, each 'signed' in embroidery with the maker(s) name. All the squares are edged with turkey red chain-stitch. The squares are bounded by a broad white cotton border, and the same material has been used as a backing. The back of the quilt has black embroidery stating 'Presented by the women of Changi internment camp 2602 (the number of the Japanese year corresponding with our 1942) to the wounded Nipponese soldiers with our sympathy for their suffering. It is our wish that on the cessation of hostilities that this quilt be presented to the Japanese Red Cross Society. It is advisable to dry clean this quilt." [Australian War Memorial]

A pictorial quilt entitled 'A Farmer's Home'. Wool, squares and oblongs pieced randomly. On these are appliqued pieces depicting aspects of family and farm life including the farm house, washing on the line, sheep, cattle, kangaroos. It is all hand sewn apart from the backing which is machined directly on to the top. The backing is red paisley cotton.

The quilt consists of 9 large rectangles each depicting a house in which the owner and her husband lived in overseas. Each house and location is identified. The houses are appliquéd and embroidered detail has been added to the houses and gardens. Plain cotton rectangles are in between the appliquéd houses. The padding is an old woollen blanket and the backing is pale green cotton percale. The quilt is tied at intervals through the 3 layers. 2180 x 490 mm
Skin rug constructed from 9 wild dog peltsand the 3 light coloured middle pelts are dingo. Backed by blue serge, then pink cotton. Originally had scalloped pink edge. Attached with large herringbone stitches. New backing was put on in 1954.

Quilt top made in pattern of hexagons, known as 'Grandmother's flower garden'. This variation is in a diagonal set. The background hexagons are yellow, and the 'flowers' are plain and patterned cotton, and include some scraps of seed sacks. The quilt is hand pieced over papers. 1930 x 1680 mm.
