Description:
9 patch on point with cream and tiny red leaf block in between. Wide variety of dressmaking and shirting fabrics from the 1880s to 1890s including tartan and mourning cloths. Hand pieced and hand quilted in diagonal lines. The padding is cotton and the backing is cream or white muslin. 2110 x 1230mm.
History:
Nothing is known of the maker or history. The quilt was purchased in Paducah Kentucky USA in 1996 the Great American Quilt tour at a stall at the fair. The quilt is used.

" This is an unfinished section/piece of crazy quilting. Ribbons divide the piece horizontally into three sections; between these are bands of pastel fabrics and embroidery in the crazy quilt tradition. The fabrics and threads employed are very luxurious: laces, satin ribbons and silk velvets. The embroidery is very fine, employing a wide variety of stitches and threads. Hand stitched unfinished crazy quilt with patches placed around a centre hexagon pieced in log cabin type strips. Materials are mainly silks and satins and pieces are mounted on grey cotton material. Seams are overstitched in herringbone stitch. 1520 x 760mm
Child's Patchwork quilt of pieced repeat blocks in red print and white cotton, in 'Bow Tie' pattern. Qult has cotton backing, and wool filling. Some patches are fraying. The quilt has 'Mary Lactitia Thompson' embroidered on it.
