The Barossa Valley is in the Mount Lofty Ranges and is one of Australia's major wine producing regions. Between 1847 and 1851 three large vineyards were established: by Gramp at Orland, Smith at Yalumba, and S"eppelt at Seppeltsfield. These were not the first grape growers in the valley, but the large wineries they established encouraged rapid development of grape growing.
