Beachport

Beachport is an historic whaling port on a rugged and beautiful coastline. The jetty at Beachport (the second longest in SA), is a haven for those who love to fish.

Bordertown

Close to the Victorian and South Australian border, Bordertown was first established in 1852 to act as an escort depot for the transport of gold from Victoria to Adelaide. It is famous as birthplace of ex-Australian Prime Minister, Bob Hawke.


The town is now a service centre for a productive hinterland where the principal rural pursuits are wheat growing, forestry and livestock.

The third largest city in South Australia is Mt Gambier. Some of its many commercial enterprises are wood processing, woolen mills, and dairy processing. Rising next to the city is an extinct volcanic cone that houses the famous Blue Lake of Mt Gambier. Each year in November the lake starts to turn to a brilliant turquoise blue, then in March it turns back into a black blue for the winter. It is not known why this colour change occurs, although many theories have been advanced.

The quiet seaside resort of Robe was once an important port for the shipping of wool. The town is situated some 340km to the south east of Adelaide and contains may buildings of historical significance.
