Griffith Art Works

Griffith Artworks, established in 1971, is the management authority for over 4000 objects that make up the Griffith University Art Collection and the On-Campus Exhibition Program, seen across 150 sites on five campuses between the Gold Coast and Brisbane. We are also a Resource/Archive Centre for students undertaking curatorial, art historical and cultural studies at QCA - Griffith University, and take on occasional projects including public art, publishing and collaborative projects.

Our main office is based at N12 Sewell Building, Nathan Campus, Griffith University Nathan. Griffith Artworks is also responsible for the management and programming of the QCA Gallery (formerly known as the DELL Gallery @ QCA) at the Queensland College of Art, South Bank campus. QCA Gallery is a secure, humidity and temperature controlled space capable of meeting International Facility Report standards.

 

The Gallery's mission is to tour and exhibit exhibitions that reflect contemporary interests held by students, staff and researchers and to build around such projects an array of public events that facilitate wider discussion, critical insight and professional development opportunities. The QCA Gallery is located at 226 Grey Street, South Bank Queensland (near the Goodwill Bridge end).

The QCA Gallery (formerly known as the DELL Gallery @QCA) is an active and exciting space where exhibitions and public programs change every six to eight weeks. The Gallery is easy to find with easy access to public transport, both bus and train as well as car parking facilities. Being part of Queensland's cultural and recreational precinct of South Bank, the Gallery at Griffith University's Queensland College of Art is in easy walking distance to many of Queensland's leading cultural institutions such as the Queensland Conservatorium, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Queensland Museum, Queensland State Library, Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art as well as numerous restaurants, shops and other entertainment facilities. From friendly helpful staff to wheelchair access the Gallery is a must on the cultural rounds of South Bank.
Collection: 

The Griffith University Art Collection was established with the founding of the University in 1973 and acquires works by contemporary Australian artists. The collection comprises works on paper, including prints, paintings, drawings, photographs and electronic based media.

The collection focuses on works which are inter-disciplinary and which address debates from both within the art form and within the wider contexts of Australian society; tracing the cutting edge developments within contemporary Australian art since 1971. Major strengths of the collection are the moving image collection which holds over 100 film, video and CD ROM works starting from 1967 through to present, tracking both the history of the moving image in its stages of technological development, as well as its relationship to contemporary social, political and artistic concerns; strong works on paper collection ranging from etchings, lithographs and screen prints including the Poster Collection which highlights some of the major events through the eyes of the artists, which occurred in Queensland during the 1970s and 1980s. The collection also holds significant examples of several of Brisbane, Queensland and Australia's best known artists.
