Description: 
Cot quilt, repeat block in Bow Tie variation (?). White homespun and pink print with animals. It is hand pieced and tied. The padding is white flannelette and the backing is pale blue homespun. 1130 x 970 mm.
History: 

The cot quilt was made by Lenore Myrtle Howes (1913-1999) In Nebraska USA c. 1945. It was then owned by her daughter and now her grand-daughter. It is not used.

Story: 

"My grandmother probably made this for my uncle who was born in 1945. When my brother was born in 1962 it was used for him. I remember having it as a 'doll' quilt as a child." [Shari Jamieson]

All diamond patches and edging were joined to white border decorated with feather stitch. White border edged with zig-zag white feather stitch. Centre rectangle of white has 4 red petals edged with white feather stitch and 4 red diamonds each embroidered in white clockwise: '1898', 'R', 'L', 'K'. Diamonds edged with feather stitch. There is no padding and the backing is white cotton.

Patchwork quilt of cotton hexagons in a random mix of colours and prints, the predominant colours being blue, red, green, light yellow and pastels. Patches hand sewn. There is no padding and the backing is a grey wool blanket. The top is machine stitched around the edge to the blanket.

The hexagons form an indented edge on all sides; on the back the rectangles have been cut at the edge to match the hexagon shapes. Hand sewn, the edge machine sewn.

Frame quilt pieced from square, rectangular and triangular pieces from plain and patterned cotton. The central motif of the rooster is appliqued in red cotton on white background with a border of red triangles. There is a white cotton backing.
