Description: 
Cot quilt, repeat block in Bow Tie variation (?). White homespun and pink print with animals. It is hand pieced and tied. The padding is white flannelette and the backing is pale blue homespun. 1130 x 970 mm.
History: 

The cot quilt was made by Lenore Myrtle Howes (1913-1999) In Nebraska USA c. 1945. It was then owned by her daughter and now her grand-daughter. It is not used.

Story: 

"My grandmother probably made this for my uncle who was born in 1945. When my brother was born in 1962 it was used for him. I remember having it as a 'doll' quilt as a child." [Shari Jamieson]

Patchwork top made in the Log Cabin pattern in cotton fabrics, 10 x 10 squares. Hand sewn. Most fabrics are patterned, colours in darks and lights include blues, red and pink, greys, browns. The wide border is made from 3 rows of blunt ended triangles (tumbler), the edge is bound with a narrow strip of patterned grey and white fabric. Each corner of the border has 3 chequered squares set on the diagonal. Hand sewn, the binding is machine sewn. No padding or backing.

Quilt in mauve, pale blue and white squares, with wide borders of floral and off white. The quilting is a centre medallion with leaves on the border, and cross hatched over all. The padding is cotton batting, and the backing is plain white cotton. 2180 x 1900 mm.

Block pattern consisting of a circle, hexagon and circle within a square. Cotton dressmaking fabrics with a few plain creams. Hand pieced and hand quilted. At some stage has been machine reinforced. Now faded, worn and damaged especially one end. Quilting pattern is four leaf clover inside large cable. The backing is 4 different pink toned fabrics in longitudinal stripes. Cotton quilt in 'Wedding Ring' pattern. Background material is calico type in cream and the rings are in pastel colours, yellow, pink, blue and green prints and plains. It is hand pieced and hand quilted and the edges of the quilt are scalloped and finished with a pale pink binding. The backing is cotton and the padding is cotton.
