Glenorchy

Glenorchy is situated just 7Km to the north of Hobart. The area houses the Derwent Entertainment Centre, the Elwick Racecourse, and the Royal Hobart Showgrounds.

The Zinc Works in Glenorchy, is one of the largest zinc refineries in the world.

Hobart is Australia's second oldest capital, having been founded in 1804. It lies on the banks of the Derwent River estuary, a broad, drowned river valley in the south of Tasmania. Mount Wellington dominates the hilly metropolitan area of Hobart.

Hobart was once an important Whaling Port, but now each year after Christmas, it welcomes a fleet of boats that enter the port after the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.

Kingston is located just 12Km South of Hobart, and it is the largest town in the Kingborough municipality. The first white man to visit the area was the botanist Robert Brown in 1804.


Kingston is the home of the Australian Antarctic Division's research facilities. Here you can find public displays of historic items and photographs from Antarctic expeditions.

New Norfolk

In 1793 Lieut. John Hayes was the first white man to record the sighting of the situation of New Norfolk. The name new Norfolk was given to the site in 1807 by people who came to the area from Norfolk Island.
