History:

This utilitarian quilt was made by Mrs. Eletha Fagg at Lankey's Creek NSW c.1920. Her son Keith donated it to The Pioneer Women's Hut. It is displayed occasionally in the museum.

Story:

This quilt was in continuous use on beds at Lankey's Creek until post war and then at Keith's house at Mannus, NSW until about 1970. It was then used on a bed between a mattress and a wire base to 'stop the draughts'.

Crazy patchwork borders, mainly rectangular fabrics pieced together in diagonal patterns, radiating from a central frame embroidered with flowers. Many pieces are extensively embroidered in a great variety of stitches and motifs; butterflies, sunflowers, cats, daffodils, crown, pawn broker's symbol, 'money to lend', 'good night', the initials of family members and 'mater 1890'. The quilt has a deep border of maroon sateen. There is no padding visible but it is possibly a blanket.
