Story:

"This quilt was made in Adelaide by Florence Ann Sharpe for the birth of her grand-daughter, Yvonne Sharpe, in December 1936.
Florence Sharpe, nee Meadows, was born in 1869 in North Adelaide, South Australia. She was raised in her grandfather's home following the death of her mother, Charlotte, from diphtheria, when Florence was 7 years old. Ann, her grandmother, died in child birth before the birth of Florence so it is likely that her step grandmother, Elizabeth Meadowns, taught her to sew.
Florence was also pianist, accompanying celebrated Edwardian singers visiting Adelaide, at recitals in the town hall.
This quilt is of pink cotton sateen - the reverse ivory coloured in a fabric of finer weave. It measure 2ft 10inches (870mm) by 2ft 2inches (660). Stylised hearts set the quilting design.
It has been in my care always. [Yvonne Hamdorf]
