Description:
Patchwork quilt made from brightly coloured printed cotton fabrics in hexagon patches hand sewn together in rosettes, and stitched by machine onto a border of green moire taffeta. No padding. Backing is green cotton satin curtain lining. There is a matching pillow sham.

History:
Made by Jane Ellen Meynink (born Crothers, 1894-1983) in Brisbane (Qld) who began quilting in her retirement aged 70. The quilt was the 6th of 6 quilts designed and made by Jane. Owned by her daughter-in-law Barbara Meynink (born Campbell). Known as Jeannie's quilt (Jane Ellen's pet name). Used only on "high days and holidays!"
Story:
"This quilt, no 6, replaces no1, which wore out. It was used constantly. Also we got a bigger bed & Jane Ellen offered to make another quilt for us. The quilt was laid out on the floor to decide upon colour placement & arrangement for the overall design. It has an hexagonal centre."

The centre frame consists of a blue rosette of hexagons surrounded by six rosettes or flowers all with black centres. Patchwork quilt in Log Cabin pattern made from silks, velvet, cottons and taffetas, in prints and plain, around a centre squares of black velvet. Colours are, in the dark sections, blues, greens, browns, yellow and pinks. The base of the blocks is blue and white ticking. The padding is probably cotton. Backing is of green cotton. There is an attached frill on all sides of green cotton, faded to dull light brown.

Backing of plain fabric. Machine stitched on a treadle machine.

This domestic Wagga is two layers of woollen army blankets with the top layer in rectangles joined in rows. The backing is hessian bags that originally contained meat meal.

Large centre rectangle of hexagons in various colours of patterned and plain cottons. It is surrounded by a wide border in a checkerboard of red and white cottons. There is a wholecloth cotton backing. The front and the back have been turned under at the edge and machined. There is no padding.

Crazy patchwork quilt made from silk and cotton fabrics, in patterns and plains, in bright colours. Patches are arranged around a central diamond shaped patch in yellow which is bordered with light blue. All seams are covered with featherstitch and herringbone stitch. Patches were stitched onto a calico backing. A recent calico backing ahs been added and dark blue binding attached to the edge. No padding.
