Tweed River Art Gallery
On 1 February 2004 the new Tweed River Art Gallery opened its doors. It was officially opened by NSW Governor, Professor Marie Bashir AO. The striking purpose built gallery was designed by award winning Brisbane architect Bud Brannigan, on land generously donated by Doug and Margot Anthony. Set on a hilltop location it offers stunning, magnificent and panoramic views of the Tweed Valley.
The building has an education/workshop centre, four exhibition spaces, performance space, library, and a café. The new spacious building offers a friendly, comfortable ambience which is enjoyed by many visitors. Visitors will find a stimulating program with changing exhibitions of artworks from the Gallery's growing collection and exhibitions of local, national and overseas arts and crafts.
The Marks Family Library is available to the public, increasing community access to current arts issues. The gallery focuses on training and professional development, providing opportunities for the community to interact with professional artists. The Frances Mills Education Centre offers an exciting program of workshops and activities for adults and children. The Anthony Gallery & the Macnaughton Focus Gallery provide a showcase for local artists. The Jim & Thelma Kelly Wall provides an opportunity to display artwork of current/local nature. The Withey Family Gallery displays temporary and travelling exhibitions. The Friends Portrait Gallery displays work from the Gallery’s Australian Portrait Collection including winners and finalists from the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize 1988-2000.
