Description:
Dresden Plate' quilt with scalloped edge. Made in traditional template method from multicoloured scraps of printed fabrics with counterpoint of turquoise cotton. The 'plates' are set into calico blocks. The backing is calico and the quilt is very finely hand quilted. 2290 x 1950mm

Purchased by the present owner from Elsie Gerson of Toronto, Canada whose mother-in-law made it in New Brunswick Canada between 1930 and 1940. It was purchased in the late 1980s. It is used occasionally,

The twenty blocks are sashed with plain mauve fabric which does not meet evenly in some places. The padding is two layers of cotton bedspreads. The backing is open weave rough quality cotton.

Patchwork quilt made from pure wool suiting samples in shades of navy blue and brown. Quilt is constructed in 11 rows containing 11 pieces. Each piece is 14cm x 9cm. No padding. Backing is of mauve cotton with a floral pattern of closely spaces white/pale mauve flowers.

Small patchwork piece possibly made from salesman's samples. There is no opening in the back so it is not a cushion cover. There is no padding. The backing is green polished cotton. There is a 40mm fringe around the edge.

Single bed quilt hand pieced from silk hexagons using the English method. The border, backing and central rosette of hexagons are black. All other hexagons are a mixture of plain colours, stripes and florals. They are randomly placed. It is quilted in a diamond pattern. The padding is a thin cotton woven material.
