Description:
Dresden Plate' quilt with scalloped edge. Made in traditional template method from multicoloured scraps of printed fabrics with counterpoint of turquoise cotton. The 'plates' are set into calico blocks. The backing is calico and the quilt is very finely hand quilted. 2290 x 1950mm

Purchased by the present owner from Elsie Gerson of Toronto, Canada whose mother-in-law made it in New Brunswick Canada between 1930 and 1940. It was purchased in the late 1980s. It is used occasionally,

Double sided patchwork quilt. One side has a centre of pieced hexagons enclosed by borders of plain strips and pieced stars and squares. The other side has a printed Royal Coat of Arms (lion and unicorn) 'Honi Soit Qui Mal y Pense, Dieu Et Mon Droit', surrounded by wide borders of plain and printed materials in the style of frame quilts.
