Description:
All cotton scrap quilt in 'Star' variation. Scalloped border bound with pink cotton. The padding is hand carded cotton and the backing is white cotton.

History:
The quilt was made by Alyce Bush (born Rodgers) 1870s-1949 in the early 1930s in Alabama USA. It was made for Anna Bush who then gave it to Alyce Wright. Alyce Bush, the maker, was Alyce Wright's paternal grandmother. Alyce Wright owns the quilt now. It is not used.
Story:
"Alyce Bush, a lone quilter, would spend many hours alone on her front porch as her husband was a security night watchman and slept during part of the day. Quilts were the main form of bed covering used in the family.
When I went to visit my grandmother the bedding comprised a feather mattress with at least 4 quilts layered on top. It was very cold in winter and we only had open fireplaces for heating."

Rosettes are set in a white 'path' with the centre and first ring in solid colours and the second ring prints. There is a yellow border and an outer border in pink. It is hand pieced and hand quilted. The padding is cotton and the backing is white cotton with 2 border edges in light and dark blue. These borders were originally part of the top. There is an inscription "Dear daughter from Mother".

Patchwork quilt made from silk and challis and velvet hexagons set to form diamond shapes. The centre shape has 8 hexagons surrounded by a row of 16 hexagons. The outer border of the quilt is 2 rows of 'Tumbling Blocks' set amongst a variety of black silk and satin patches. There is a wide fringe in red, green, blue and yellow. There is no padding and the backing is a recent addition in red cotton, synthetis mix.

Yellow and white cotton Durham quilt with centre panel of patchwork blocks in counterchange design called 'Plate'. There is a wide yellow border and square white corner blocks. It is padded and there is a yellow backing. It is quilted all over following the patchwork pattern in the centre panel. Feather pattern border.
