Description:
Hexagon shaped cover in cottons, rayons, linens and seersuckers. Central hexagon motif surrounded by 6 groups of hexagons. In fill is also hexagons. Red patterned hexagon border. The backing is calico. There is no padding. Embroidered on the back is ' D.Channells, Coffs HBR, 1961'.

History:
This cover was made by Doris Channells in Coffs Harbour on the north coast of NSW in 1961. When Doris died she left it in her will to Jewel Hide her grand-daughter. It is still used.
Story:
Doris Channells made this quilt/cover from pieces of old clothes including dresses and her husband's old shirts when they were worn out. She was the grand-daughter of David Jones' first tailor, James Conniff, who was brought to Australia to work in D.J's first shop in George street.

Quilt made from furnishing materials, mostly velour type or uncut moquette. The colours are dusty pinks and beige/camel/blue. It has been put together by making wide strips of various sized rectangles sewn together and any missing piece in a rectangle added by using another piece of material to complete the shape. There is no padding and the backing is winter cotton.

Hexagonal piece of patchwork made up of 9 rows of rosettes of hexagons in a wide variety of colours and patterns mainly in silks and velvets. It is incomplete. Backing papers are still in the outside rows and also basting threads. Hexagons are joined by fine whip stitching. It is unlined.

Large double sided quilt of rectangles and squares of men's suitings, patterned and plain on both sides. The top has a central motif of a circle of three segmented rings radiating from a single hexagon. The outer ring is all tailors' samples and the inner rings are a variety of materials. There is some featherstitching in red. The quilt is sparsley machine quilted.
Suffolk Puff quilt made from a variety of scraps of dress materials including cottons and terylene. It is backed with white cotton sheeting and edged with a frill of white terylene. There is a matching pillow sham.

Utility patchwork quilt made up of mainly squares of furnishing material machine pieced. It is backed with machine pieced patches of woollen jumpers, mainly machine not hand knitted. The back is possibly the top. There is no padding.

Double sided utility quilt made from machine pieced squares of tailors' samples and men's and boy's suitings. The padding is 5 or 6 layers of pieced used clothing including darned, threadbare socks, part jumpers, blanket pieces etc.
