Description:
Hand sewn quilt of cotton hexagons placed to form rosettes or 'flowers'' each unit is 6 hexagons and one in the centre. There is a border, based on squares, around the quilt. In the centre of a rosette in the middle of the quilt 'E.L.1798' is embroidered in grey cotton in cross stitch. The backing is cotton.

History:
The quilt was made in England last century by Elizabeth Leadbeater whose initials are on the quilt. It was donated to the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) in 1971 by Mrs. C.E.Edmondson when McCrae homestead opened to the public.
It is displayed at McCrae homestead, McCrae, Victoria.

Decorative embroidery stitches including straight, herringbone and feather edge each piece. Most pieces have embroidered motifs including crown, flowers, horseshoe and Australian motifs of wattle and emu. Date '1891' worked in cross stitch on one piece. The padding is wool and the backing dark red satin and these are joined by diagonal machine stitching in yellow thread.

Hand pieced log cabin quilt in silks, satins and velvets. There is a silk backing machined on, possiby a later addition. The quilt has over 5000 pieced.

Crazy patchwork on to foundation material with the edges of the pieces turned under and machined. It is not quilted. A 25mm red binding has been machined on. There is no padding. The backing is red wholecloth cotton.
