Barkly

Located in the Eastern/Central part of the Northern Territory, the Barkly Region contains the Davenport Range National Park, the Devils Marbles,Newcastle Waters, and the gold mining town of Tennant Creek.

The aboriginal people of the region believe the Devils Marbles to be the eggs of the mythical Rainbow Serpent.

A major mining town approximately 500 kilometres north of Alice Springs. Gold was discovered in the area in the 1920s and 30s, with the richest find at Nobles Nob in 1934. Gold is still actively mined in the area.

The Devils Marbles are located 96km south of Tennant Creek. They are a collection of huge spherical granite boulders, some strangly ballanced on others. These spectacular natural formations are a popular tourist stop.
