Description:
This is an American kit quilt. Quilt pattern is of square blocks in checkerboard with alternate blocks embroidered on homespun with a variety of individual birds, all machine-pieced. Alternate blocks are blue, each quilted with 'Rose of York' pattern. Backing is also of the same deep blue fabric; quilt is padded with fine cotton batting. 2200 x 1600 mm.
History:
The maker of the quilt is unknown; quilt was made in the USA, possibly Nebraska, date unknown. It was owned by Sandra Lee Mires James (born Howes) and is now owned by her daughter, the present owner. It is not used.
Story:
"I received this quilt after my mother died (North Platte, Nebraska, Sept 2000). It was found in the closet. My maternal grandmother died in December 1999 and I don't know if this quilt came from her or if my mother got it somewhere else". [Shari Jamieson]

One side of this quilt is large pieces of check and striped material surrounding a small patterned supper cloth with a border of scrap pieces. The other side is small, floral, check, spotted, striped and plain cotton pieces surrounding a tablecloth. It is machine sewn and is not quilted. The padding is an old woollen blanket.

Crazy patchqork quilt, handsewn, composed of six large squares of patches in brocade, velvet and silk in random shapes and sizes. Patches are stitched to others by blanket stitch in yellow thread. Some patches have surface embroidery, e.g. a dragonfly, flowers, music notes, and names, 'Minnie', 'Loyetta' (house in Ballarat), 'Diana'. There are also five small cream bobbles. Colours are red, gold, brown, pinks, greens and blues. Padding is flannel, and quilt is backed and edged with maroon or burgundy ribbed silk.

Patchwork top made of cottons, constructed with 5 by 5 rows of squared 8 point pieced stars alternating with white cross-shaped blocks (made from 4 pieces). On all sides are borders of half stars. The outer border is of rectangles of cotton prints appliquéd on to cotton to form a plaited pattern. The border only is backed with a band of cream cotton. All patches are whip stitched together.

Cotton quilt made in the USA. Pattern is the 'Evening Star' and each star has a frame. It is hand pieced and hand quilted and uses shirting material. It has been modified along two sides where the block extension is visible, having been turned to make a hem. The backing is calico and the padding is cotton.

Handsewn quilt pieced in red, blue, green and yellow print cottons in 'Lone Star' pattern, with diamond shaped patches. The main star is edged with a red and cream sawtooth border. In each corner is a star made up of 4 rows of diamonds, surrounded by small 8 point stars in red and green. The background material is a cream and brown spot print. The backing is a printed cotton in a small all over purple leaf and bud print on cream. Quilting is in an all over wave pattern.
