Large silk hexagon quilt with a centre motif of hexagons then a square of hexagons smaller than the rest of the quilt. It is hand pieced over papers using the English method. A backing of green cotton is more recent.

History:
The maker is unknown but the quilt is thought to be Australian and dated 1850-1870. It was found in Melbourne. It is now in the collection of Annette Gero.
Story:
"This quilt is typical of the silk hexagon quilts made in Australia in the mid 19th century. The technique of piecing over papers came from England with the early Australian settlers. The templates in this quilt have been removed and it has been backed with green cotton more recently��" [Annette Gero]

Patchwork top made of cottons, constructed with 5 by 5 rows of squared 8 point pieced stars alternating with white cross-shaped blocks (made from 4 pieces). On all sides are borders of half stars. The outer border is of rectangles of cotton prints appliquéd on to cotton to form a plaited pattern. The border only is backed with a band of cream cotton. All patches are whip stitched together.

This is one of two single bed quilts in a pattern the owner calls 'Martha Washington's Flower Garden'. Flowers are in six hexagons in a variety of prints with a plain coloured centre. The background is cream, and the backing is calico. 2500 x 1800 mm.
This Adelaide Chronicle wildflower quilt has alternating squares of green and fawn headcloth embroidered with Australian wildflowers on the fawn squares and stylised floral motifs on the green squares. It is bordered and backed with the same green material. It is padded.

Hand sewn patchwork quilt with a pattern of blue stars. Each star consists of hexagons in the centre with part diamonds forming the star shape. The quilt is made from scraps. It is not padded and the backing is cotton and has a hexagon star border. 2660 x 2470 mm
Cotton quilt hand pieced and hand quilted. Eigth pointed star on a white background. 7 rows of 7 stars with a 70mm border. There is a padding or interlining. The backing is plain off white cotton twill.
