(i) to preserve & maintain the "Victoria" Powder Magazine building situated on Carriage Drive, Queens Domain, Hobart within the guide-lines laid down for historic buildings on the register of National Estate.

(ii) to establish & maintain a museum relating to the military theme "the defences of the Derwent" from 1803 to 1945, at the "Victoria" Powder Magazine.

(iii) to raise monies pursuant to objectives (i) & (ii) by conducting military re-enactments in period uniform, and by acquiring, buying and selling Tasmanian Colonial & Commonwealth militaria. The assets and income of STVAS, shall be applied solely in the furtherance of the objectives of the STVAS, and no portion shall distributed directly or indirectly to the members of STVAS, except as bona fide compensation for services rendered, or expenses incurred on behalf of STVAS.

(iv) to advance the study of the history of the defences of the River Derwent at Hobart in Tasmania.

(v) to facilitate association of, and collaboration and inter-change of information, between persons and organisations with a legitimate interest in the defences of the Derwent, in particular and Australian military history and military archaeology in general.
