Old Farm, Strawberry Hill

Old Farm, Strawberry Hill

The Old Farm built in 1836, is set in idyllic surrounds. Home to the first Government Resident in Albany, Captain Sir Richard Spencer R.N. and his descendants, it was also the site of the first farm in Western Australia under constant cultivation. For many years the property was a focal point for such gracious occasions as poetry recitals, balls and games of croquet. Today the home is beautifully furnished to depict the way of life in early colonial times, and includes many items which belonged to the Spencers and later residents, the Bird family. Lovely gardens are a major feature of the Old Farm. Of particular interest is a willow grown from a tree cutting taken from near Napoleon's Tomb and planted by Sir Richard.
