Wonnerup House & Old School
This pioneer settlement illustrates early rural life in Western Australia. The restored complex includes a house converted to a dairy and kitchen (c.1837), an attractive furnished homestead (c.1859), stables, and blacksmiths. Nearby is a restored one teacher school (1874) and teacher's house (1885). Wonnerup House, which was built by the Layman family, is set in farmlands close to a forest of majestic tuart trees, near the Vasse Estuary Wetlands. It is surrounded by lovely gardens and gives some idea of the struggles the Laymans survived in order to establish a thriving farm in the area.
