Description:
Probably originally a quilt, now part is a wall hanging. Hexagons randomly placed and backed with black cotton added later. There is a padding of carded cotton stitched by hand. The hanging has a twisted cord around it, once crimson, now brownish. 580 x 400mm
History:
This wall hanging, or the quilt from which it came, was made in England by a sewing maid to Queen Victoria using scraps from her dresses. It passed by maternal descent from the present owner's great grandmother to Daisy Aylmore grandmother, Daisy Parker and is now owned by Kaye Sittlely. It came to Sandy Creek in South Australia and for the past 100 years has been in Western Australia, first in the country and now in the city.

Reversible quilt made of squares and rectangles of mostly wool suiting and some heavy cotton. The borders are of joined brocade. There is no padding.

" This well worn quilt is of pieced diamonds set into squares (221 make up the quilt). Thick woollen fabric has been used for the pieces. These are with plain dyed fabrics or tartans and checks. Double sided patchwork quilt. One side has small 'Tumbling Block' pattern. The other side has larger pattern of pieced stars. It is made of silks, some printed, some solid colours mainly blues, greens cream and black. There is no padding.

Quilt with hexagons forming lozenge or honeycomb pattern. Predominantly greens and pinks in brocatelle (rayon brocade). All hand stitched. The backing is lime green rayon. The padding is probably dacron.

Crazy patchwork quilt made from silk, cotton and velvet in pastels and rich dark colours with a wide border of dark burgundy silk velvet. Decorative embroidery stitches including straight, herringbone and feather edge each piece. Most pieces have embroidered motifs including crown, flowers, horseshoe and Australian motifs of wattle and emu. Date '1891' worked in cross stitch on one piece. The padding is wool and the backing dark red satin and these are joined by diagonal machine stitching in yellow thread.
