Description:
Patchwork quilt made from diamond patches in the 'Cotton Box' pattern, in a wide variety of cotton fabrics, including plains, checks, stripes and florals. The patches have blotting paper templates. The quilt is edged with diamond shapes in a red floral cotton. The backing is of the same red floral pattern, featuring yellow, turquoise and white flowers and leaves. Hand sewn.

History:
Made c.1890-1900 by Mrs Sophia Mary Wilbow of Windsor (NSW). Owned by her daughter Mrs Louisa Best, then Jack and Grace Best. Owned by the Yass & District Historical Society (NSW).
Story:
"Mrs Sophia Mary Wilbow of Windsor NSW. The mother of Mrs Louisa Best, wife of John Thomas Best of 'The Pines', Tangmangaroo [NSW]. They were parents of Jack (and Grace) Best and grandparents of John R. Best present owner of 'The Pines'. The quilt is all hand done & lined with blotting paper & made over 80 years ago & she made one for each of her daughters."

Fabrics are plain, checks and stripes. No padding, quilting or binding. Backing is a remnant of synthetic fabric. The quilt has been well sued and is very worn with fabric torn and marked in some places.

Small quilt made from pieces of heavy weight wooollen coat material cut into strips and machined together. It is reversible. Each side is made from different materials but in similar colours of aqua, blue, green and beige. The 2 layers are quilted together with a few machined lines of straight stitching. It has a folded and machine stitched edge. There is no padding.

Pieced repeat block in 'Dresden Plate' pattern in a variety of fabrics with pink and pale blue predominating. Scalloped outer edge. Machine pieced and hand quilted, with echo quilting of four petals between the 'Dresden Plates'. The padding is polyester, and the backing is white calico. 2600 x 1630 mm.
Patchwork quilt, all cotton including cotton filling. Pink and white. Large plain pink blocks with white pieced blocks in between in arrow type pattern based on rectangles. Hand sewn and hand quilted

Hand pieced frame quilt with centre frame of hexagons and radiating borders of cotton and chintz. There is a heart at each of the 4 corners on the second border. It is hand quilted. There is no padding.
