Description:
Hand pieced hexagon quilt in pattern known as 'Grandmother's Flower Garden'. Wide variety of materials, plain and patterned. The hexagons are arranged in rows with a 9cm border in lime green shantung. There is no padding and the backing is green shantung. 2400 x 1480mm
History:
The quilt was made as a fundraiser for the bowling club at Wollstonecraft, Sydney NSW and was raffled. Bonnie Johnston won it about 1960 and when she died in 1999 it passed to her daughter in SA. It is not used.
Story:
For several years this quilt had appeared on the trading table at the Wollstonecraft Bowling Club (Sydney) but there were no buyers. It was then suggested that it was raffled and Bonnie Johnston won it.

Repeat block in Ohio star pattern. Wide border of triangles, pieced blocks and stripes. Stars are in greens, pinks, mauves (all now very faded) and white. Wreath quilting in squares with smaller wreath quilting in triangles. There is padding and the backing is a poly/cotton sheet. 2500 x 2450mm
Patchwork quilt for a child made from suiting pieces from the Castlemaine Woollen Mills in Victoria. One side has dark rectangles in greys and navy, the other side uses pieces in light browns, cream and rust, with dark grey. The edging is also made from suiting. No padding Machine sewn.

This quilt has been strip pieced with no regular pattern. It seems a large quilt has been made then folded in half. The materials used are woollen skirting pieces in a variety of colours. It could be used either way. There is no padding and it is very heavy.
