Patchwork quilt made from hexagons in 'Grandmother's Flower Garden' design, in blue and aqua cottons, polyester and flannelette. Quilt is backed. No padding or quilting.

History:
Made by Beth Chamberlain c.1968 for the family's beach house at Cape Paterson. Owned by her daughter Mrs Gillian Albers.
Story:
Known as the 'Pankina' Quilt (means 'a happy place').
"I made the quilt mainly from my sewing scraps as I had a young family at the time. I learned how to do hexagons from a magazine article. I had no idea how to make a 'proper' quilt. I made it especially for a holiday home we were building at the beach and blue was to be the colour scheme. It was in use there (at Cape paterson Vic.) for about 10 years. I stored it for some time then gave it to my daughter about 15 years ago."

Patchwork quilt made of 1 inch hand paper pieced hexagonal patches (English technique), with plain and floral patterned blue fabrics in clusters at regular intervals throughout the taupe coloured patches. Centre of quilt has a cluster or 'flower' of 4 rings of patches, the centre group embroidered in blue satin stitch: 'MW 1938'. Border consists of 3 rows of medium, light and dark blue hexagons. Cotton quilt top in patter, the owner calls 'Tumblers'. Approximately 590 pieces, with one exception, all different patterns and colours. 2181 x 1980
Patchwork quilt made of squares and rectangles in woollen fabric, stitched together without any particular pattern. Colours are mainly green, grey, blue, black, pink and some yellow. Fabrics are plain, checks and stripes. No padding, quilting or binding. Backing is a remnant of synthetic fabric. The quilt has been well sued and is very worn with fabric torn and marked in some places.

The top is machine pieced patches of used clothing. The backing is large pieces of dress materials and either end patches similar to the top. The padding is a chaff bag or similar with patches of worn, matted children's jumpers sewn directly on to it.
