Description: 
Quilt made of two overlapping woollen, children's garments, heavily embroidered with wool (herringbone stitch), backed with checked flannelette, edged with woollen crochet. Woollen crochet edging has 5 rows of treble crochet, with one row of double crochet on edge. No apparent padding.

History: 

Known as 'Nana Thompson's Quilt'. Made by Mrs Maude Thompson, in Narrandera, NSW c.1930s. Owned by Mrs Lynne Brown, daughter of Ada, Maude's fourth daughter.

Story: 

"Maude Thompson was widowed at the age of 30, after only 10 years of marriage and was left with five small daughters. At that time there was not a Widow's Pension available. Mrs Thompson and her daughters lived in the house which was originally her childhood home, with the support of her father, her brother, and her stepson, Frederick.
The home, as photographed, is still occupied, and Mrs Thompson lived in that same home for all but three of her 97 years.
She was a very artistic and creative person - she always added decorative touches to her handwork, and children's clothing. Many of her handcrafts are still in the family, examples of her embroidery, crochet work and hooked woollen rugs backed with hessian, are still being used today."

Block pattern consisting of a circle, hexagon and circle within a square. Cotton dressmaking fabrics with a few plain creams. Hand pieced and hand quilted. At some stage has been machine reinforced. Now faded, worn and damaged especially one end. Quilting pattern is four leaf clover inside large cable. The backing is 4 different pink toned fabrics in longitudinal stripes. Patchwork quilt in Grandmother's Flower Garden pattern consisting of groups of 7 rosettes and single rosettes with white filler hexagons and a border of rosettes alternating with 'bow tie' shapes of 5 patches in the middle of the quilt. Hand sewn in cotton dress and shirting materials , the colours mostly blues, pinks, reds, brown and white. The quilt top is covered in netting. There is no padding and the backing is cream cotton twill.

Quilt made of hexagons in cotton materials, the hexagons set in the 'Grandmother's Flower Garden' pattern with 6 patterned patches set around a plain coloured centre patch and white hexagons forming 'paths'. There is a white cotton backing with the edges turned under all the way around and top and backing are joined by a blue machine sewn satin stitch. The patches are hand sewn.
