The Museum building dates back to C1871 when James Campbell Duff built a general store. The building is the oldest commercial premises in Wingham.

Mary Gregory - Cheesdish

Description:
Mary Gregory' is the term used to describe Glassware decorated with opaque white enamel figures of children at play, flowers and animals. May have been named after a decorator who worked in Glass Coy in America in the 1880s.

Description:
Carved Ivory, worn like a pendant around the neck.

Believed to date back to the time of Black Death (Bubonic Plague) in Europe in the 1800s. Was hung around the neck on a leather thong, a bloodsoaked bit of rag inside it. The wearer was to be protected from flea bites as fleas would be attracted to the bloody cloth.

Description:
China cup and saucer. The cup has a lip on it. Used by men to protect their moustach from getting wet and stained when drinking tea.

Old timber building with corregated iron roof, small barrel window. Small cell, originally located at Wingham Police Station, later used as a Police Office, then as a Beach Weekender, now part of Wingham Museum. Contains Iron Bed Jimmy Governor once slept in.
