Description:
Made from crocheted rounds with raised centre, using left-over wool. Centre is a flat circle of clusters of treble stitch. Padding is a piece of blanket. Backing is blue cotton fabric. Centre not in good repair. Colours mainly yellow, red, blue, green, pink, white and black.
History:
Made by Margaret Osterfield (born Falletta), at Burnt Gully near Bendigo (VIC) for Verna and Kaye's parents, probably in 1939-1940. Owned by Verna's sister, Kaye Osterfield.
Story:
"Margaret Osterfield, born Falletta 25th August 1856 was a very hard working farmer's wife. She and husband Frederick Osterfield had 10 children, my Father the second youngest. They lived at Burnt Gully, approx. 10 miles from Bendigo. She crocheted and embroidered until her death on her 87th birthday."

A hand sewn quilt of more than 6,536 hexagon pieces in cottons, silks and polyester mix. There is a centre circular pattern of hexagons within a larger hexagon and small hexagons form larger hexagons in a random pattern on the quilt top. There is no padding and the backing is a plain fawn sheet with a floral edging in hexagons. 2880 x 2550 mm.

Backing of plain fabric. Machine stitched on a treadle machine.

"A tied patchwork wagga quilt made from swatches of men's wool suiting fabrics in blue/grey and pink/brown tonings. Rectangular swatches have been cut in half diagonally, and the resulting right-angled triangles paired to form larger equilateral triangles which alternate dark with light across the field. The quilt has been machine and hand pieced, then machined in vertical stripes.
The centre field is bounded by two strip-pieced borders at top and bottom, and three down each side. These are sewn from rectangles, using light pink/brown tones for the inner border and darker colours for the outer borders. The quilt is padded and backed and the side seams are secured with black herringbone stitch. The three layers are tied together invisibly with lazy daisy stitches in black cotton from the back." Crazy patchwork quilt made from silk and cotton fabrics, in patterns and plains, in bright colours. Patches are arranged around a central diamond shaped patch in yellow which is bordered with light blue. All seams are covered with featherstitch and herringbone stitch. Patches were stitched onto a calico backing. A recent calico backing ahs been added and dark blue binding attached to the edge. No padding.

Crazy patchwork quilt, mostly velvet, with two rectangular frames or borders of green fabric. All patchwork pieces have embroidery over the seams, mostly herringbone. Quilt is edged with a cream cotton ruffle. Cotton backing.

Single bed quilt hand pieced from silk hexagons using the English method. The border, backing and central rosette of hexagons are black. All other hexagons are a mixture of plain colours, stripes and florals. They are randomly placed. It is quilted in a diamond pattern. The padding is a thin cotton woven material.
